What is Oral and Maxillofacial surgery?

OMFS is a specialty of Dentistry. After 4 years of dental school a residency is completed in a hospital based setting. It is during these 5 years that Dr. Capes received extensive training in Surgery as well as Anesthesia. A unique distinction, both oral surgeons also completed Medical School and a 1 year residency in General Surgery.

Why all the training? Surgery is a complex process. You see it is not about doing a procedure it is about taking care of you as a whole. So many factors determine what procedure will be right for you. It is with that training and experience that then allows us to treat you properly and successfully.

As Dr. Capes has always said: “I have never met a tooth that wasn’t attached to a person!”

We specialize in treating conditions of the mouth, teeth, and facial structures. This includes removal of teeth (wisdom teeth), performing biopsies of oral lesions, correcting traumatic injuries of teeth and facial bones (jaw fractures), and reconstruction with dental implant procedures.

Our goal is to use our gifts to make you healthy and whole.
